Jeff Leung Shu-ming, graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas USA, with a Master Degree of Music in Orchestral Conducting. He was also the recipient of the Peggy Wedgeworth Wright Award Scholarship. His conducting mentors include Mr. Francis Kan, conductor of the Macao Orchestra; Dr. John Winzenburg, Hong Kong Baptist University; Dr. Gene Moon, director of the Longview Symphony Orchestra and Mr. Fred Allen in Stephen F. Austin State University. He was the assistant conductor of the Union Philharmonic Orchestra in the University of Hong Kong, Stephen F. Austin State University Orchestra and its Opera Theatre. He was also the guest conductor of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra and the Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble. Starting from 2016, Leung was appointed as the resident conductor of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra.
Leung was a guest performer of many orchestras including Opera Hong Kong, Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra, where he has toured in Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Mainland China and Macao.
Apart from conducting, Leung is also keen on music composition. He studied Music Composition under Dr. Christopher Coleman when he was doing his Bachelor Degree of Music at Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2013, he was invited by the Musicus Society, whose director is a famous cellist, Trey Lee, to compose a commissioned string quartet “66 Leighton Road” for the headquarters of Po Leung Kuk in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, which was premiered by the Tapiola Sinfonietta Quartet from Finland.
